UNBELIEVABLE: Buccaneers name Steelers as potential trade partners.
The Steelers may have a team poised to make a move in the first round of the 2024 NFL draft. During his pre-draft press conference, Tampa Bay Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht stated that once the Steelers make their selection, they will begin to consider trades.
“I’d say around pick 20, we’ll know if we want to start attempting to move up or not,” he said. “I would say right now that I appreciate the idea of how much faith I have in my staff – both the coaching and scouting staff – and how we’ve been working. Those choices feel quite crucial to me right now.”
The Steelers have been linked to a number of teams, including the Buffalo Bills and the Washington Commanders. There has also been speculation of trading up from pick 20 to select an offensive tackle.
Pittsburgh presently has the 20th and 51st picks in the first two rounds, with two third-round picks to come. Their biggest needs are offensive lineman, center, wide receiver, and cornerback, and while a first-round pick gives them more options, they may consider moving out of the pick if their draft board remains filled at 20.
The Buccaneers currently hold the 26th pick in the first round.
The Steelers haven’t moved down in the first round of the draft since 2001, but with Omar Khan in the building, it feels that anything is possible at all times. If Pittsburgh believes they could acquire more by jumping back six spots, it’ll likely happen.
