South Carolina basketball commitment Joyce Edwards had a huge performance to send her Camden Bulldogs squad to the 3A state championship in soccer.

South Carolina basketball fans are aware that Joyce Edwards can shoot. Edwards, a multiple high school national player of the year, is one of the highest-rated prospects to ever join the Gamecock program, which is quite an accomplishment given Dawn Staley’s team’s recruiting record. What many Carolina fans may not realize is that Joyce Edwars is also a very good high school soccer player.

Earlier this week, the future Gamecock laced up her soccer cleats for what could have been the final time, but her effort on the field made sure that she gets another chance on the pitch. In the lower state championship game of the 3A South Carolina Soccer High School League Playoffs, Edwards scored all three goals for her Camden Bulldogs squad as they knocked off the Philip Simmons Iron Horses by a score of 3-2.

Edwards and her Camden team will travel to Waccamaw on Friday to take on the Indians for the 3A state championship game.

Edwards’ multi-sport success will not follow her to the University of South Carolina, but the skills she has learned while playing soccer have undoubtedly improved her game. She has good and smooth feet on the floor, and she is comfortable jockeying for position in the paint, as she does in 50-50 header scenarios on the pitch. The South Carolina basketball team has the potential to be even stronger in the 2024-2025 season than they were during their undefeated 2023-2024 national championship run. If they realize their full potential, Joyce Edward will play a significant role.

Though the Gamecocks are loaded all the way down the roster, a player as talented and as versatile on both ends of the floor as Joyce Edwards will go a long way in the team’s success during her freshman year.
