Hull FC lost 54-4 at home to a Leigh Leopards team decimated by injuries, marking their fourth loss in five games. It was one of the club’s biggest losses in Super League history.

Naturally, this has prompted many supporters to want change, and head coach Tony Smith now has a difficult task in trying to turn things around and bring one of the biggest rugby league clubs in the nation back on track.

Supporters are turning against owner Adam Pearson, who has made significant investments in the team over the years and guided them to back-to-back Challenge Cup victories in 2016 and 2017.

The Black and Whites’ lone victory of the season came in the third round when they defeated the recently promoted London Broncos with a late try. They followed it up with a fierce road game against the Catalans Dragons, the runners-up of the previous season’s Grand Final.

Hull put on a brave display last week despite losing in the South of France, which gave many people hope that they could upset Leigh, a team that had lost its opening three games and was beset by injuries.

However, the Challenge Cup winners destroyed the Airlie Birds, leaving the devoted supporters of FC furious at the end of a humiliating performance against a Leopards team that was the underdog before the game even started.

Since then, Hull fans have taken to social media to demand significant changes at the team, criticizing head coach Adam Pearson and longtime owner Smith for the appalling display and slow start to the campaign.

Without a doubt, Smith took on a challenging role at Hull, but despite encouraging signals the previous season, they were unable to compete at the highest level of Super League, and there were hopes that this season would offer greater optimism.

However, the Olf Faithful’s optimism has now all but vanished, as this loss is a clear indication that FC is falling behind the times. Many people are left wondering about the heart after this loss, more so than the quality, despite the enthusiasm.SAD NEWS: Hull FC: Supporters demand that the administrators "close up shop and leave."

The team that started the season on the field looked, on paper at least, not all that different from the one that struggled for the duration of the previous season, raising concerns about the club’s recruitment practices.

Which raises the question: Which way is Hull FC going? Few individuals seem to know the answer to this issue, and those in positions of authority—who at this point seem to be living off of previous triumphs—appears to have little notion.

This loss to Leigh will only make things more difficult for the ownership group, coaching staff, and bunch of players who appear to be out of their league while playing for one of the largest rugby league teams in the nation.
