Rafael Leão Reveals he tried to persuade Barcelona star to join Ac Milan.
Rafael Leão of AC Milan acknowledged on Tuesday that he had convinced a key defensive player from La Liga giants Barcelona to join him in Serie A.
The player in question? João cancels. Full-back Cancelo, of course, joined the aforementioned Barcelona on loan last summer.
After being judged surplus to requirements by Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola, the 29-year-old agreed to a season-long loan agreement in Catalonia’s capital. Cancelo has subsequently established himself as a key member of manager Xavi’s defence, scoring four goals and providing four assists in 39 games across all competitions.
However, as previously stated, if one of the defender’s countrymen had his way, Cancelo could have been playing in Italy this season. In an interview with transfer analyst Fabrizio Romano on Tuesday, AC Milan winger Rafael Leão revealed that he contacted his compatriot prior to his move to Barcelona to promote the Rossoneri as a prospective destination.
“I was talking with João Cancelo, and he liked AC Milan…” So I told João: Come to AC Milan! I tried to contact him while he was at Manchester City. But it was challenging. It seemed like a wonderful fit for him to join our new age.”
