REPORT: New York Giants trade Jordan Phillips to Dallas cowboys instead of cutting him.

Joe Schoen, the general manager of the New York Giants, never stops working, as evidenced by a late-night trade between the G-Men and the Dallas Cowboys, in which Jordan Phillips leaves East Rutherford without having played a single regular season snap.

According to Ian Rapoport, the Giants have traded the veteran defensive tackle to the Cowboys.

This isn’t a blockbuster move, as it was up in the air if Phillips would even make the 53-man roster – it was looking like he’d be released. So, what is Schoen getting in return? It’s a swap of late-round picks in 2026, with NY landing a sixth-rounder in exchange for Phillips and a seventh-rounder:

The New York Giants have traded veteran defensive tackle Jordan Phillips to the Cowboys.

The Giants signed Phillips this offseason with the hopes that he’d turn into a solid contributor for Shane Bowen’s defense. However, Phillips hasn’t looked sharp this summer and the writing appeared to be on the wall for him, especially with younger players coming on strong.

The list includes undrafted free agent Elijah Chatman, who has been downright impressive throughout camp. Chatman also played well in the preseason opener against the Detroit Lions. Because of his development early on, he has a great chance to stick around for Week 1.

That wasn’t going to be the case for Phillips. Now, he’ll look to try and do enough to impress Mike McCarthy and Co. over in Arlington. The fact that Schoen was able to get something in return for the big-bodied lineman should be considered a win. We look forward to that sixth-round pick in 2026. Thanks Dallas.
