REPORT: For the first time since 2021, the San Francisco 49ers plan to make a first-round selection.
The San Francisco 49ers will not skip the first round of the NFL draft this time.
They have not had a first-round pick in the last two years because they traded up to acquire quarterback Trey Lance in 2021. However, this year, they hold the 31st pick, followed by nine more picks later in the draft.
Coach Kyle Shanahan admitted that not having a first-round pick for the past two years has been difficult. They traded those picks for Lance, who did not perform to expectations.
Despite this, the 49ers performed admirably, reaching the NFC Championship Game in Lance’s first two seasons and making it to the Super Bowl last season.
