Reed Blankenship, Eagles safety, offers an injury update.
Philadelphia Eagles safety Reed Blankenship signed a one-year, $3.9 million contract extension on Tuesday and provided an injury update to reporters afterward. Blankenship, who suffered injuries in 2023, disclosed that he had surgery on his groyne earlier this year.
“Unfortunately, I had to have surgery,” Blankenship explained. “It was a personal decision whether or not to do it, and I believed it was the best one conceivable. Right now, I’m feeling wonderful. I’m completely back to normal. It feels good not to be as sore as I was this season dealing with it. I am ready to leave. I’m very excited to show what I can do.”
Blankenship’s groyne injury occurred late last season, keeping him out for the Eagles’ wild-card loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. “It was one of those freak ordeals,” he told me. “You extend slightly in the incorrect way, and something tears a little bit. I ended up needing to get it repaired, which I believe was necessary because they mentioned it was a little chronic and had some issues. It doesn’t matter how long I played on it; it’s simply getting ready for the next one.”
Despite injuries, Blankenship earned 15 starts for the Birds last season and led the club with 108 tackles. He also has 11 pass defences, three interceptions, and one fumble recovery.
