NEWS FLASH: Max Verstappen expresses his displeasure over the Mercedes move with a six-word Red Bull statement.
Max Verstappen has once again thrown his weight behind the Red Bull project, doubling down on his support following reports that he is dissatisfied with the constructor giants.
Verstappen is contracted with Red Bull until 2028, although talk of an early retirement has increased in recent months.
Verstappen has been linked with a move to Red Bull’s long-time rival Mercedes following Lewis Hamilton’s departure, as a free seat became available.
Verstappen, on the other hand, has denied any dissatisfaction, claiming that he is comfortable at Red Bull and has no plans to leave the team.
Speaking to Red Bull’s in-house Talking Bull podcast, Verstappen said the Milton Keynes-based constructor “definitely feels like a second family” where he can “really be myself”.
He later stated, “The first race with the team and the first championship [are the highlights].” That first race, of course, was because I had recently been promoted [from junior team Toro Rosso]. “Some people are still questioning if that was the correct decision.
Fortunately, the weekend went quite well. Of course, that made me very happy, as did Helmut [Marko, Red Bull adviser].”
Verstappen continued: “He was also very happy, of course, because it was his decision to put me in that car. “That first title, well, that one was quite dramatic. Especially after a year that required so much from everyone. “Those are moments I’ll never forget.”
With Verstappen obviously out of the running, Toto Wolff’s search for Hamilton’s successor is set to continue.
Wolff told Dutch publication Autosport Wereld that the requirements for his next driver are simple: he wants the best driver available. My first choice right now is Kimi Antonelli.
