Milan Star Picks up Injury Scare in French Camp.
A slight fitness issue may force Milan left-back Theo Hernandez to miss France’s highly anticipated Euro 2024 match against the Netherlands. Fabrice Hawkins reports that the 26-year-old was absent from practice on Wednesday due to a sore muscle, raising questions about his availability for Friday’s match.
In Les Bleus’ opening match on Monday, a tight 1-0 victory over Austria, Hernandez was the team’s best player. Superstar striker Kylian Mbappe’s face injury in the tournament’s opening round dealt a severe setback to Didier Deschamps’ team as he was forced to miss the remainder of the group stages. Dayot Upamecano and William Saliba were also not present at Wednesday’s practice in addition to the Milan star.
Hernandez, the former Real Madrid star, had a fantastic start to the tournament amid rumors that Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain have their sights set on him. Though it may sound disgusting, Hernandez’s injury could be a blessing in disguise for Milan.
Hernandez’s performance versus Austria was impressive and set the stage for what might be a major international competition. In Milan’s attempt to cling onto its talisman past the summer, that would have surely attracted further “unwanted” attention from international clubs. The Frenchman has declined to promise Milan his all going forward. He’s weighing his options following yet another season without a trophy. The Serie A powerhouses would plaster a massive price tag on his head if he requests to go, turning away potential bidders with their initial €80 million asking price.
