Wembanyama finished with 34 points, 12 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 blocks, becoming only the fifth rookie in NBA history to do it, following Kevin Durant, Michael Jordan, Shaquille O’Neale, and David Robinson.
Wembanyama is the only rookie in NBA history to have at least 34 points, 12 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 blocks, and 5 three-pointers in a single game. Wembanyama clearly wanted this one, as evidenced by his emotional outburst following the game. While the Spurs will not make the playoffs, it is apparent that Wembanyama and his colleagues are very interested in establishing strong momentum for next season.
This was a devastating loss for Denver, since they no longer have sole ownership of the first seed. With the tiebreaker against Denver, the OKC Thunder are currently in first place and can secure the top seed with a win in the season finale. Denver held a one-game lead over Oklahoma City heading into Friday’s games, and they controlled their own path to the #1 spot. They will now need an OKC defeat in the season finale to reclaim that spot, putting Denver in a difficult position.
