Broncos gain momentum as Reece Walsh aims for an early comeback.

Reece Walsh, the outstanding fullback for the Brisbane Broncos, has avoided surgery on a face fracture and is aiming for an early comeback from injury. This is a huge boost for the team.

Walsh was competing against the Penrith Panthers last Saturday when he collided head-on with their centre, Taylan May, fracturing his face in the first few minutes of the match.

Walsh will be returning sooner than anticipated to the casualty ward, where he will join Payne Haas (knee) and Brendan Piakura (ankle). Earlier, scans had suggested Walsh may miss up to six weeks.

Walsh is hoping to return for the Round 6 match against The Dolphins, having been informed by doctors that he will not require surgery, according to The Courier Mail.Broncos gain momentum as Reece Walsh aims for an early comeback.

It is acknowledged that Walsh will have to wait three weeks to play against The Dolphins; he is more likely to make a comeback in Round 7 against the Canberra Raiders.

Billy Slater, Walsh’s coach in Queensland, discussed the injury and predicted that Walsh will be sidelined for at least a month because his face fracture will take time to heal.

“It’s difficult; I’ve broken my eye socket before,” Slater stated on the Billy Slater Podcast.

He will be out of commission for perhaps a month while it heals. He can lift weights, run, and train. It’s not as though his condition will worse.

“Reece is a true gamer, and I’ve watched him during this time learning about the game and his current situation.

He’s in a great place right now. I’ve been keeping a close eye on him, and he’s moving the football incredibly effectively, and his off-the-ball moves are as outstanding.

“He’s putting a lot of effort and development into his game.”
