Deal reached: According to some, Everton is on the verge of signing a “sensational” ace who may become Gueye 2.0.
Manager Sean Dyche may find it challenging to bolster his Everton team during the transfer window given the financial cloud hanging over Goodison Park. The Toffees have had a number of financial setbacks in recent years, including two separate infractions of the Premier League’s PSR regulations for the 2022–2023 campaign.
It’s hardly surprise that things have drastically changed on Merseyside; Dyche’s team still needs to raise money by June 30th in order to prevent losing points in the 2024–2025 Premier League season. Although the exact amount that needs to be raised in the next month is unknown, the team will probably have to let go of high-profile players, as Amadou Onana is frequently mentioned as perhaps joining Premier League rivals Arsenal.
No matter if the Belgian leaves Merseyside this summer, it looks like Everton is getting closer to bringing in a midfield player who might follow in the footsteps of another great Everton player at Goodison Park. Football Insider reports that Everton and fellow Premier League team Aston Villa have agreed to a £10 million deal for talented midfielder Tim Iroegbunam.
The midfielder managed just nine league appearances as the Villans finished fourth in the Premier League; both clubs are fighting to raise money to avoid a points deduction next season, but Everton seem willing to splash the cash on a player who could prove to be a bargain should he reach his full potential. The young Englishman is set to move from the Midlands to Merseyside in an attempt to receive more playing time.
The 20-year-old is reportedly well-liked by Unai Emery, and Dyche’s team has made progress in negotiations with him. This might lead to him teaming up with another Villa player who relocated to Merseyside. Why Everton’s Iroegbunam might be Idrissa Gueye 2.0
Idrissa Gueye, a gifted midfielder, was acquired by Everton for a reported £7.1 million when Villa was demoted to the Championship in 2015–16. This move activated Gueye’s relegation clause.
The 34-year-old, who has made 171 appearances and scored eight goals—including the game against Nottingham Forest last season that ignited the team’s incredible end-of-season run that saw Dyche’s team win five of their last eight games—is an excellent servant who has made the club a great deal of money. However, the Toffees sold him to PSG in 2019 for £30 million before re-signing him for a minimal fee and a second stint.
Iroegbunam may follow in Gueye’s footsteps this summer by moving from the Midlands to Merseyside. The Englishman has put up some impressive numbers, which may even lead to him playing alongside the Senegalese ace in the upcoming season. Iroegbunam has only had a minor influence at Villa Park, but even so, he has put up some fantastic figures that would greatly help Dyche’s team.
One Villa source called the player “sensational.” He has won 71% of contested tackles and recorded a 93% pass completion rate, proving his ability both inside and outside of the ball. Iroegbunam is expected to be the next big success at Goodison Park after joining from the Midlands team. The club has had great success in the past when acquiring midfielders from Villa.
