Tam McManus calls the Rangers’ victory over the Hibs “Embarrassingly Bad.”

After Rangers‘ Scottish Cup victory over Hibernian was marred by a “embarrassingly bad” performance, Tom McManus blasted “hopeless” Scottish officials.

John Lundstram and Fabio Silva goals either side of halftime helped the Light Blues secure a 2-0 victory at Easter Road on Sunday, March 10, securing their spot in the Scottish Cup semi-final.

Nonetheless, the match was rife with controversy as Hibs gave up a first-half penalty, lost Jordan Obita and Nathan Moriah-Welsh to red cards, and McManus was quick to criticize the referee for his work.

“Recall the referees threatened to go on strike here after criticism from managers?” the writer wrote in a Sunday, March 10 post on X. With the state of Scottish officials, it might soon be players and managers.Tam McManus calls the Rangers' victory over the Hibs "Embarrassingly Bad."

“It’s really, really embarrassingly awful. Here, VAR has revealed the quality of the referees.

Have the referees assisted Rangers in their victory over Hibernian?

For some time now, there has been a story in Scottish football circles that Rangers has been winning the Premiership by winning referee decisions this season and in previous years.

The controversy over the “penalty to Rangers” has persisted for some time, but all of the decisions made at Easter Road yesterday were reasonable since Dujon Sterling made contact that warranted a penalty and both of the red cards were reasonable, if a little harsh.

The one thing, though, that Rangers fans will all agree on is that this season’s standard of referring north of the border has been appalling, and Clement’s team has also been a victim of those poor choices.

Hopefully, following yet another “hopeless” performance in a crucial game, any talk of a referee strike has been swept aside. Although it is doubtful that standards would rise, they haven’t come close to being adequate.
