Miami is finalising an agreement to hire Toledo women’s basketball coach Tricia Cullop as a successor for the retired Katie Meier, according to a person familiar with the situation. Cullop emerged as a finalist in recent days, and negotiations for an agreement moved rapidly, according to the person, who spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity because the school had not made an announcement.According to an Associated Press source, Miami is finalising an agreement with Toledo's Tricia Cullop to become the women's coach.

Cullop has spent 16 seasons at Toledo, winning 353 games and going 86-17 over the last three years. During Cullop’s career, the Rockets made two NCAA Tournament appearances. She has a connection to Miami as she played for Lin Dunn at Purdue. Dunn spent nine seasons as Miami’s coach before taking over at Purdue in 1987.

Meier retired last month, after a 19-year career in which she led Miami to 10 NCAA Tournament appearances and the Elite Eight last season. Meier, the 2011 AP Coach of the Year with four years left on her contract with the Hurricanes, will remain at the institution as a special consultant and ambassador for the athletics department. She was 362-208 in Miami.
