Former Steelers wide receiver Denzel Mims relocates quickly to a new home.
On Wednesday, the Pittsburgh Steelers cut loose both safety Trenton Thompson and wide receiver Denzel Mims. However, Mims found a new home quite quickly. The Jacksonville Jaguars have signed the former second-round selection.
After spending much of the previous season on the Steelers practice squad, Mims received a contract extension with the team at the end of the campaign. He took part in Pittsburgh’s required minicamp and OTAs. Despite being selected by the New York Jets in the 2020 draft, Mims had difficulty launching his career. In nine games as a rookie, he caught 23 passes; however, in 2021 and 2022, he only grabbed eight and eleven passes, respectively. Last season, he did not play in any games during the regular season.
Naturally, speculation about who Pittsburgh may sign to fill the two open roster spots has begun, especially in light of the ongoing reports that the team is looking for a No. 2 receiver.
