BREAKING NEWS: The Houston Texans continue to prioritize CJ Stroud in the seven-round mock draft.
The Houston Texans, who moved from 3-13 in 2022 to their first winning season in four years and a decisive playoff victory over the Cleveland Browns, were the surprise team of the 2023 season. Additionally, the crew has only begun to explore the full extent of their abilities.
C.J. Stroud, the Offensive Rookie of the Year, and Will Anderson Jr., the Defensive Rookie of the Year, lead the Texans. Both rookies are young and promising. Tank Dell, another rookie wide receiver who played in just 11 games but ended second on the team in receptions, also had a great season for them.
Houston now ranks eighth in terms of salary cap room, giving them plenty of room to improve their roster as well. In addition, the team has five picks—two in the fourth round—among the top 150 choices. The Texans should be among the top three teams in the AFC South the following season if they can have another excellent draft this year and make smart free agency decisions.
In the offseason, the Houston Texans may have the most need at cornerback, depending on who goes via free agency. Three of the team’s best corners, including starting corner Steven Nelson, are currently set to become free agents. Nelson recorded four interceptions and 12 pass breakups in the previous campaign. The team will need to sign a replacement if they lose him to free agency.
Kool-Aid McKinstry of Alabama, who I have projected as the number one cornerback in the 2024 NFL Draft, would be a perfect substitute. His smart, fundamentally solid play is why I have such high expectations for him; it should allow him to start in the NFL right away.
