BREAKING NEWS: Sean Dyche tells Everton players to ease up on Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Sean Dyche acknowledges that the longer Dominic Calvert-Lewin remains barren, the more pressure there will be on him.
However, the Everton boss has reminded the rest of his goal-averse team that scoring goals is not the only responsibility of the star striker.
For the relegation-threatened Toffees, Calvert-Lewin has failed to score in 19 games since October.
He is not, however, the only Everton player having difficulty scoring goals; in 25 Premier League games this season, the squad has only scored 27 goals. Only Sheffield United and Burnley, who are in last place, have worse records.
With regard to Calvert-Lewin, Dyche stated, “I think he knows where he’s at.” “Football has enough loudness these days.
“Do you suppose he believes no one is making a fuss over him failing to score? He probably is aware of that.
“That’s the strikers, isn’t that right? Fair or unfair? That’s the reality of the position as a striker.
However, I’m sure that every striker aspires to be praised for their ability to score goals.
“That incredible feeling you get when you score, especially at Goodison where the crowd usually erupts, is part of the fuel that you’d have as a striker.”
I believe they are aware of their responsibilities. It is a component of their job.
Having said that, forwards aren’t the only ones who need to score goals.
“We want them to put in the hard yards for the team, defend, and work hard.” We must thus compensate for that by having other individuals score.
On the other hand, Dyche can find solace in his team’s stellar defensive record throughout a challenging season.
Only the current top four teams have allowed more goals than Everton this season—just 33.
“I’m happy with that side of things, and that’s the whole team,” Dyche stated. Though I believe we ask the players to defend from the front, and I believe they’re becoming better at it, a lot of attention is focused on specific players in the back unit.
We all know that the hardest part of the task is converting the opportunities we create into genuine finishes and goals. I believe that the tactical form and understanding of the side have improved. It is evident that that is still a work in progress.
Everton will visit seventh-place Brighton on Saturday after battling their way out of the relegation zone on goal differential with a 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace on Monday.
In their fight against the drop in May of last year, Everton triumphed 5-1 at the Amex Stadium.
“That was probably a hiccup in their season at that time,” Dyche stated. Never mind, though; we made that happen.
“They are a good side, so it wasn’t because they weren’t playing well or a good side.”
“They’ve proven once more that they’re a strong team, and their home record has been excellent for several seasons.”
