What makes a Justin Fields deal less profitable for the Bears.
In the event that the Bears decide to trade Justin Fields, they may find that the market closes before it ever opens.
All of it comes down to the fact that there are only so many teams looking for quarterbacks in the draft who may not be able to select one who can start and guide his team in 2024.
A lot could depend on whether Minnesota, the division foe, can get quarterback Kirk Cousins to sign a new deal before he hits free agency.
On The Athletic Football Show, Dianna Russini of The Athletic stated that Cousins joining the Atlanta Falcons “makes sense.”
According to reports out of Minnesota, the Vikings are keen to sign Cousins to a new contract; however, if they are unable to do so, there are reports indicating that the Falcons are also interested in signing Cousins. After coach Raheem Morris and general manager Terry Fontenot’s combine interviews, trade interest in Fields appeared to be concentrated in Atlanta.
According to one account, Arthur Blank, the coach of the Falcons, instructed Fontenot and Morris to just do the necessary tasks to get Cousins to Atlanta.
In the event that Atlanta signs Cousins in free agency, the situation will change drastically.
Cousins has historical links to the Falcons as well. For the first six years of Cousins’ career, Morris was a defensive backs coach at Washington. The offense that Zac Robinson is bringing to the Rams is similar to that of Kevin O’Connell’s Vikings squad. O’Connell and Robinson have both been employed by Rams head coach Sean McVay.
Julie, the wife of the cousins, is another tie-in; she is from the Atlanta region (Alpharetta, Ga.).
Pittsburgh was mentioned as a possible suitor if Fields did not sign with the Falcons, but rumors two weeks ago stated the Steelers were opposed to signing Fields and would probably give Kenny Pickett another chance to establish himself. There have been rumors that they have an affinity for Russell Wilson.
