BREAKING NEWS: ‘Internally dealing with’ Latrell over R-rated chat: Souths says it might have been handled better.

Nick Pappas, the chairman of South Sydney, has spoken his opinion regarding the current issue that is surrounding superstar Latrell Mitchell.

This week, as many in the league are all too aware, Mitchell escaped punishment for his foul-mouthed post-game interview after South Carolina’s Thursday loss to the Broncos.

Following accusations that Mitchell is a protected species, the decision has sparked a deluge of comments, with some criticizing it and others saying it smacked of hypocrisy.

Now that the controversy has subsided, Rabbitohs chairman and lawyer Pappas has acknowledged that Mitchell’s interview “could have been handled better.”

“The club is handling him appropriately internally,” Pappas stated to The Daily Telegraph.

“I am confident that Blake Solly, the chief executive, and the football department are doing everything within their power to provide him with the necessary assistance during this difficult time.

“I am fully confident that he will do well for this team both this season and beyond.

We will always be there for him. It doesn’t mean, however, that I don’t think that situation could have been handled more skillfully.

“Yes, it definitely could have been, and I have no doubt Latrell would agree.”

Andrew Abdo, the CEO of the NRL, is apparently going to talk to Mitchell on Wednesday night regarding his notorious interview.

The interview was cut short after the fullback used many expletives and said, “I don’t care if I’m swearing boys, honestly.”

Before that, he had also beamingly celebrated his historic 100th try of that game.

Journalist Paul Kent opened up about the most recent Mitchell drama on Tuesday in the wake of Triple M’s punishment for the celebrity’s notoriously rude interview.

In response to concerns from the Rabbitohs and Channel 9, the NRL reportedly barred Triple M from filming post-match interviews, according to a Tuesday story in the Sydney Morning Herald.

Additionally, Triple M removed the interview from their social media accounts.

Journalist Kent from the Daily Telegraph attacked NRL headquarters’ inconsistency on Fox League’s NRL 360 show on Tuesday night. Kent brought up Spencer Leniu’s eight-week suspension for racially assaulting Broncos star Ezra Mam.

“To be honest, I’m not impressed with the NRL’s current woke politics,” Kent stated.

“On the one side, we have Spencer Leniu, and [NRL CEO] Andrew Abdo says we’re going to hit Spencer Leniu, so you better watch what you say.

“Next, Latrell Mitchell (to Abdo)… “Well, we all make mistakes,” he responds.

“Now hurry up. The enforcement of the regulations must be uniform.

“When there is inconsistency, it hurts us all on the field, and it gets even worse off it.”

Abdo’s remark earlier in the day had caused a stir among some.

“We play a lot of matches and I’ve been the CEO for four seasons,” he remarked.

“The players speak with the media on important occasions, thus in my opinion, it is rare to come across situations where the language used is regrettable.

“Players are urged to be true to who they are, authentic, and sincere, but let me return to the phrase I used earlier: with respect.

“We have to accept that everyone makes errors and that occasionally players will say things they later regret. It has come to my attention that Latrell has acknowledged his regret, and I want to speak with him soon.

It is predicted that the long-standing rivalry between the Roosters and South Sydney will “explode” on Friday night.

After a dismal beginning to the season, Roosters champion Braith Anasta claims the Rabbitohs are “on their knees.”

After just two games of the season, Souths cut their halfback, Lachlan Ilias, and their superstar fullback, Brad Pitt, was involved in a scandal when the NRL declined to discipline him for using profanity on multiple occasions during a post-match radio interview.

Given that his team’s dismal performance in 2023 has continued into this season, head coach Jason Demetriou is already facing pressure to stay in his position.

In their first two games against Brisbane and Manly, the Rabbitohs have given up 64 points and committed 28 mistakes.

The team is currently facing a difficult stretch of games, beginning on Friday night at Allianz Stadium against the Roosters, after losing 11 of its previous 15 games.

On NRL 360, Anasta stated, “This could absolutely blow up, not just because of the rivalry, we know how intense it is, we know it’s a game where both teams, both fans, and both officials hate each other.”

“But given the circumstances too, with South Sydney really on their knees at the moment having a tough week after a tough back end of last season.

When the Souths are on their knees, their fiercest rivals are the ideal opponents to respond against. This game has all the makings of a huge hit.

Paul Kent, nevertheless, thinks the Rabbitohs might win the match to salvage their season.

According to Kent, “it’s also the easiest game for them to respond in because emotionally it just comes to them; they don’t really have to even try.”

“Those major games elicit feelings all of their own. In terms of performance, Souths have very few options after this weekend.

With their backs to the wall, under investigation for insider trading within the club, and a matchup against the Roosters, they had everything set up to say, “Okay, let’s show people what we’re made of.”

Demetriou’s decision to start the halfback also places some responsibility on the guys who did survive and could have been held a little bit accountable for their performances to actually step up and have a chance. This is unusual considering their strong start.
