Breaking News: Clement is ‘Very Happy’ after Gordon Duncan relays Rangers news from Auchenhowie.
Gordon Duncan reports that Jack Butland’s likely England call-up has Rangers manager Philippe Clement “very happy.”
Butland is expected to play for the Three Lions in their forthcoming friendly against Belgium and Brazil.
That would be a fitting compensation for Butland, who since joining the Gers as a free agent last summer has shown himself to be an excellent addition.
Speaking from Auchenhowie, Duncan stated on Sky Sports News [February 27, 3:59 p.m.]: “Philippe Clement is understandably very happy with that recognition may it come.
“He’s maintained 17 league shutouts.” It’s important to remember that club legend Allan McGregor retired in the summer of last year, leaving a significant void.
“Butland has consistently received praise, been very dependable, and is protected by a strong defense.”
Rangers goalie Jack Butland is expected to be called up to the England national team. This season, Butland has had 17 clean sheets in the Scottish Premiership, which is four more than any other goalie in the division.
Joe Hart of the Celtics, for example, has only missed one game this season and already has 11 clean sheets. Zander Clark, a stopper for the Hearts, comes in second place with 13.
Though in certain games he might only need to make one or two saves every game, Butland is always on guard and has produced some excellent saves.
Jordan Pickford is England’s clear first-choice goalkeeper going into Euro 2024, but the other two positions are up for grabs.
Butland will be traveling to Germany if he can continue to play well for his club and earn a chance to play against Brazil or Belgium next month.
Though, selfishly, I would prefer for all the players to take the summer off, but if Butland gets this chance, nobody can complain.
In other Rangers news, during his most recent press conference, Clement acknowledged that Mohamed Diomande was a transfer target.
