BREAKING NEWS: C.J. Stroud criticizes the Bears while endorsing the team to retain Justin Fields.
When asked what the Bears should do with the top choice in the 2024 NFL draft, C.J. Stroud didn’t mince words. He also made fun of them for thinking about dealing Justin Fields, a former teammate from Ohio State.
“Who’s this Caleb Williams? I’m not sure. “Who gets to pick first?” Stroud enquired.
“The Mountain Dogs. Do you believe that they will retain Justin Fields? Inquired USA Today.
“If they’re intelligent, they should. However, you know,” joked Stroud.
“It’s the Bears,” USA Today declared.
Stroud responded, “You said it, not me.”
Recall that Stroud was passed over by the Bears in the NFL draft of 2023. The Bears sent the No. 1 pick to the Panthers in exchange for DJ Moore and a number of future draft selections.
Following the Panthers’ selection of Bryce Young with the Bears’ pick in hand, the Texans selected Stroud with the No. 2 pick. With a great debut campaign, Stroud easily won Offensive debut of the Year. In the AFC, he was also named to the Pro Bowl.
Naturally, Stroud also succeeded Fields at Ohio State, where they both attended to play collegiate football. In 2020, they played together for a single season. Then, in eight games that season, Fields threw for 2,100 yards and 22 touchdowns, with Stroud filling in as his backup.
The Bears have a troubled history with quarterbacks, as Stroud hinted to. In their more than a century of existence, they have never correctly filled the job, which emphasizes the significance of the 2024 NFL draft. Despite what Stroud believes, Williams might be too good to pass up with the first overall pick.
What are the plans for the Bears’ offseason? Pay attention.
