After serving as their temporary manager at the close of the 2016 season, the Atlanta Braves named Brian Snitker manager on Tuesday, selecting him to assist in spearheading their on-field makeover. After Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com revealed on Monday that he was the front-runner to accept the full-time position, the Braves made the announcement on Tuesday. General manager John Coppolella made no commitments when the 60-year-old coaching veteran, who has managed throughout the Braves minor league system, told Mark Bowman of MLB.com on September 28 that he would want to stay in the position through 2017 and beyond.
According to Coppolella, “[Snitiker] has been outstanding both on and off the pitch.” “Right now, he’s been precisely what we needed. We’ll keep assessing it to determine our next course of action.” In 2017, the Braves hope to make significant progress during an often gruelling rebuilding process. Along with bringing in some of the best prospects, like shortstop Dansby Swanson, the organisation is getting ready for SunTrust Park, its new home, to debut in 2019.
Sporting News’ Jesse Spector noted how well the squad has performed after the managerial change. Earlier in the season, it appeared that the team would finish far from worst in the standings.
In the end, the Braves would have been foolish to hire a manager other than Snitker considering how effectively the team has played under his direction. The team is still lacking in talent as it waits for more highly regarded prospects to reach the major leagues. Atlanta can afford to let Snitker a few years to establish his credentials as the organisation rebuilds itself as a serious National League contender.
