“He was a disaster,” says Sam Allardyce of Everton’s £30 million player.
Sam Allardyce didn’t leave many happy memories at Everton. Big Sam only spent half a season at Goodison Park, and to say the football was mediocre at times is an understatement.
Allardyce did have a fair record with the Toffees, guiding them to a mid-table finish following a catastrophic start to the season, but supporters rapidly turned against his style of play. Speaking on the No Tippy Tappy Football Podcast, Allardyce discussed his time at Everton, highlighting one guy who was a headache for him on Merseyside.
Sam Allardyce claims one Everton player was a disaster. Sam Allardyce spoke to Tony Pulis about Yannick Bolasie. Big Sam claims that the winger was a nightmare at Everton because of his injury problems, and that he was keen to have him in the team but couldn’t get him fit. “I had him at Everton and he was a complete mess. You know what happened; he never recovered from a cruciate. Do you understand what I mean? When I arrived, he was recovering from a cruciate injury. “We were desperate to get his pace down the wing,” Allardyce explained.
Yannick Bolasie could have been fantastic for Sam Allardyce. We can’t help but feel that this is a huge shame. Yannick Bolasie might have been an incredible gem for Sam Allardyce. For all of his long-ball football, Allardyce always liked a maverick with a little of flare, like Jay-Jay Okocha at Bolton. Bolasie had the ability to be that player for Big Sam at Everton, but injuries held him back, and, as Allardyce admits, his time with the Toffees was a nightmare, particularly under Allardyce. In another world, this may have been an extremely successful collaboration.
