BREAKING NEWS: A big-money exchange agreement is planned as Everton reacts to the transfer strategy – source.
According to SPORT, Everton has already informed Barcelona’s agents that they have no intention of reducing the asking price for Amadou Onana.
On February 26, the Catalan newspaper said on their website that the Toffees are seeking €60 million [£51.3 million] for the Belgian star, while the Camp Nou giants are willing to pay €40 million [£34.2 million].
Due to this, Deco, the sports director, must find a different way to persuade Everton to make a transaction. One potential way to do this is by including a Barcelona player in a cash-plus-player swap.
Due to interest from Arsenal and Manchester United in the 22-year-old, as well as reports that both teams can afford the Toffees’ asking price, La Liga heavyweights Barca are trailing behind in the battle.
To throw off the balance in the race to sign Amadou Onana, Barcelona may send a player to Everton.
Deco is acting quite unrealistically if he believes that €40 million will be sufficient to acquire the Everton player, either by persuading the team to let him go or by outlasting transfer competitors.
If the former Lille player were to depart, the notion of removing him from the Premier League to avoid facing him in competition would have merit.
However, if he is sold, the club will undoubtedly have to compromise on destination when maximizing compensation is the first objective.
Since he first arrived at Goodison Park two summers ago, Onana has, nevertheless, been regularly evaluated for a move away. If Sean Dyche can lead the team to elite safety once more—which seems more likely now that four points have been earned but is by no means assured with a second hearing pending—perhaps the midfield player stays put.
The idea that Onana moves for less than £35 million seems ludicrous given that Chelsea agreed to pay as much as £115 million for Brighton’s Moises Caicedo [Guardian, 14 August] and Arsenal spent £105 million on Declan Rice from West Ham [Sky Sports, 17 July]. Spending fell off a cliff in January following last summer’s spending spree, but is expected to pick up again at the end of the season.
In other Everton news, a parliament chair has responded to the release of the appeal verdict by issuing a new ASAP demand.
