Dele Alli in League One? After becoming a ‘disaster’ for Everton, the ex-Tottenham star was advised to’step down a league or two’.
Dele Alli has been told to “step down a league or two” in order to restore his career, as the former England international has been a “disaster” for Everton.
What happened? The former Tottenham midfielder was once regarded as one of the world’s most promising young players, with 37 caps for his country. He was a goal-scoring force at Spurs, attracting interest from some of Europe’s greatest clubs.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
However, the spark in north London quickly faded, and Dele was given a fresh start when he joined Everton in January 2022. That move has not gone as expected, with a series of frustrating physical issues holding him back, and another change is on the horizon as his contract expires.
WHAT KING SAID ABOUT DELE
Former Everton scout Bryan King has hinted that the MK Dons academy graduate may have to return to the Football League when he hits free agency, telling Goodison News of a player who is still only 27 years old: “He’s not an Everton player, and I don’t see his future there.” He needs to get his head around restoring his career, and I don’t see it happening at Everton. I think he should move down a league or two; he’s still young. He has been a disaster since he first arrived at Everton. He had so much going for him at Tottenham that he’s just gone off the radar. Terrible.”
WHAT’S NEXT FOR DELE?
Dele has been dealing with a recurrent groyne problem, having undergone surgery in January, and appears set to leave the Toffees after only 13 appearances for them, including a dismal loan spell at Turkish side Besiktas last season.
