REPORT: Still no word on a contract extension between the Dallas Cowboys and CeeDee Lamb.
With the NFL Draft behind us, the doldrums of the offseason are staring us in the face. Sure, OTAs and minicamp will keep our interest and help us pass the time, but it is safe to say that we are all counting down the days until the Dallas Cowboys arrive in Oxnard and training camp in late July. Whether wide receiver CeeDee Lamb will participate in pre-camp activities or throughout camp remains a hot topic.
Lamb was absent from voluntary exercises when they began not long ago, indicating his dissatisfaction with the status of contract negotiations between his agent and the organization.
To be clear this is all normal and par for the course given the position that Lamb is in, but it is obviously less than ideal in a technical sense. Stephen Jones spoke on Saturday and provided an update of sorts in noting that there is no update. The Cowboys have not made any new progress with CeeDee.
The Cowboys have a history of waiting until training camp to deal with cornerstone contracts, such as Lamb’s. Consider Trevon Diggs, who was selected one round after Lamb in the 2020 NFL Draft. He signed his agreement in the final week of July last year, after the team had already arrived in California. That’s the precedent. It seems to expect that Lamb’s extension will follow a similar pattern and pace.
What has worsened the situation this offseason is that Lamb is one of three players on the squad who are presently awaiting contract extensions from the club, with Dak Prescott and Micah Parsons.
