South Carolina Basketball: The Gamecocks compete for the uniform of the year.
South Carolina basketball is the leading program in women’s college basketball. The Gamecocks won their third national championship on Sunday, defeating Caitlin Clark and the Iowa Hawkeyes 87-75 in the title game. Dawn Staley, the team’s head coach, has also amassed an almost endless number of individual accolades. Most notably, Staley earned three National Coach of the Year accolades, Kamilla Cardoso was the WBCA National Defensive Player of the Year, Cardoso and Te-Hina Paopao were All-Americans, and the Gamecocks received eight SEC distinctions.
However, the 2023-2024 Gamecocks’ award winning streak may not be over. South Carolina basketball is a finalist for the UniSwag Uniform of the Year award, alongside the Southern Cal Trojans, East Carolina Pirates, Florida Gators, Maryland Terrapins, Tennessee Volunteers, Iowa Hawkeyes, UCF Knights, Ohio State Buckeyes, Oregon Ducks, Pittsburgh Panthers, Texas Longhorns, UCLA Bruins, UConn Huskies, and North Carolina Tar Heels. You can follow the vote for the award at this link.
If you need a reminder on Carolina’s outfits from this season, see them here. The Gamecocks’ black road suit is one of the smoothest designs in collegiate basketball.
The home whites have a clean and elegant appearance. The “Tribute to Cocky” alternate home uniforms are the greatest jersey the Gamecocks have ever wore, and look even better when viewed on Ashlyn Watkins’ dunks.
Even this season’s least-worn uniform, the road garnet, has a lovely look. There are a number of extremely beautiful uniforms in the modern game, but the South Carolina Gamecocks have a deep, elite collection, and the UniSwag Uniform of the Year title should return to Columbia alongside the other trophies this season.
