REPORT: Sergio Perez and Lando Norris disagree on F1 title fights as Red Bull driver makes bold claim.
Lando Norris has announced that he would not answer any further questions about his and McLaren’s chances in either the drivers’ or constructors’ F1 title fights against Max Verstappen and Red Bull.
However, Sergio Perez believes Red Bull has identified the problem that has reduced their lead over McLaren from 115 points to just 30 before of the 2024 Italian Grand Prix, where Norris is the favourite.
“I don’t know. It’s not something you can just question now, and I think I answered it in every single interview I did last week,” Norris told members of the press, including Total-Motorsport.com at Monza. “So I’m not going to answer every single interview from now on.
“But we’re pushing hard every weekend. Of course, our goal is to catch them both. And especially from a constructors’ side, it looks a lot more doable than a driver’s side. But I’m doing my best, the team’s doing their best, and that’s what we can hope for.”
Perez hasn’t finished ahead of a McLaren since the 2024 Miami GP, and Red Bull‘s constructors’ championship lead has been eroded almost every weekend since then as the biggest question now is whether the reigning champions can respond to take the f1 title fights to the end of the season.
However, he had arguably his greatest weekend of the European season a week ago at Zandvoort, and he believes Red Bull is on the verge of their own breakthrough: “There are many races to go still, so definitely the momentum is with them,” Perez pointed out. “But we are not going to sit back.
We’re working hard as a team to discover solutions, and I believe we’ve made a significant stride in understanding the problem. “It’s probably taken us a little too long, but we know what our problems are, and it’s just a matter of maximizing from now until the end of the year and seeing where we end up.”
“But I’ve got every hope that we can bring some performance to the car in the coming races.”
Norris unsure if F1 title fight revival will continue at Monza
Even after second career Grand Prix win at Zandvoort, Norris is still likely relying on bad luck or mistakes befalling Verstappen if their title fight is to go down to the wire.
Even if Verstappen doesn’t win again for the rest of the F1 season, he can still afford to finish second in every weekend and Norris must win every single race to triumph in their championship battle.
The team’s first test will be at Monza, a track that differs from Zandvoort and will present a unique challenge. “Monza is a very different track,” Norris explained.
“So yeah, it gives the team a good amount of confidence and always a little bit of a boost, but it doesn’t change your feeling. We know we’ve been doing a very good job since Miami, and this was a weekend where everything just went perfectly.
