REPORT: Wiremu Greig of Parramatta Eels faces six match ban for high tackle on Connor Watson.

Parramatta Eels player Wiremu Greig is facing a six-match ban after being cited for a dangerous high tackle on Newcastle Knights’ Connor Watson during a recent National Rugby League (NRL) match.

The tackle, which left Watson with a concussion, occurred in the opening minutes of the game and was deemed to be a reckless and careless act by the league’s match review committee.

Greig, who was placed on report for the incident, could face up to six weeks on the sidelines if found guilty of the offense, which would represent a significant setback for the Eels’ season.

The incident has reignited debate about the dangers of high tackles in rugby league, with some experts calling for stricter penalties and greater emphasis on player safety.

“We need to be doing everything we can to eliminate dangerous tackles like this from our game,” said one former player turned commentator.

“The players need to understand that there is no place for these types of hits, and we need to be setting an example that shows that this kind of reckless behavior will not be tolerated.”

The Eels, meanwhile, have expressed disappointment at the incident and have vowed to work with Greig to ensure that he learns from the mistake.

“We are deeply disappointed in Wiremu’s actions, and we understand that there is no place for high tackles in our game,” said Parramatta coach Brad Arthur in a statement.REPORT: Wiremu Greig of Parramatta Eels faces six match ban for high tackle on Connor Watson.
