REPORT: San Francisco 49ers formally confirmed the trade of a super bowl 58 Richard Sherman to Kansas City Chiefs.

The San Francisco 49ers shocked the NFL world by dealing superstar cornerback Richard Sherman to the Kansas City Chiefs, citing concerns about his on-field performance. Sherman, who was a crucial component of the 49ers’ Super Bowl victory in 2019, has seen his performance dwindle over the last few seasons and has been troubled by ailments that limit his usefulness.

The 49ers, who are notorious for their aggressive approach to roster management, elected to part ways with Sherman, citing a desire to free up salary space and focus on younger, more potential players.

“We are grateful for Richard’s contributions to our team over the past several years, and we wish him nothing but the best in Kansas City,” 49ers general manager John Lynch said in a statement.

“But we felt that it was time for us to move on and focus on building for the future.” Many in the NFL world were surprised by the decision, since Sherman was a fan favorite in San Francisco and had been well recognized for his leadership and ability to produce huge defensive plays.

For his part, Sherman expressed disappointment at being traded but also acknowledged the 49ers’ decision to move on from him.

“I’m definitely disappointed to be leaving San Francisco, but I understand that this is a business and that teams have to do what’s best for them,” Sherman said in a statement.

“I’m excited to join the Chiefs and help them continue to build on their success, and I’m looking forward to contributing to their team and their community in any way that I can.”
