REPORT: Dallas cowboys General Manager Jerry Jones declined Jordan Phillips trade to the team and explains his decision.
Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones has sparked controversy by declining to pursue a trade for defensive tackle Jordan Phillips, despite the player’s strong interest in joining the team.
Phillips, who had expressed a desire to be traded to the Cowboys and play for a contender, was reportedly available for a relatively low price, but Jones refused to pull the trigger on a deal.
“We appreciate Jordan Phillips’ interest in joining the Cowboys, but at this time we do not believe that a trade is in the best interest of our team,” Jones said in a statement.
Jones’ decision to pass on Phillips has sparked surprise and anger among some in the NFL community, with many questioning why the Cowboys would pass up an opportunity to get a talented defensive player at a low cost.
“I think Jerry Jones is making a big mistake by not pursuing a trade for Jordan Phillips,” according to a football analyst.
“He’s a proven commodity in the league, and the Cowboys desperately need help on the defensive line. I’m not sure why they wouldn’t want to take a chance on a guy like that.”
Jones has justified his choice, stating that he believes the Cowboys have enough skill on the defensive line and does not want to upset the team’s chemistry by adding a new player.
“We have a lot of faith in our current defensive linemen, and we think that they can get the job done for us,” Jones said the crowd. “I understand that people may not agree with my decision, but I believe that it’s the right move for the team at this time.”
