Ex-Michigan QB coach relieved of duties after drunk driving arrest.

Denard Robinson, a former Michigan Wolverines standout quarterback, is no longer on the team’s coaching staff, the school announced Tuesday.

Robinson, 33, was detained on charges of driving while drunk following a single-vehicle incident in Ann Arbor just after 3 a.m. on April 15. According to the Ann Arbor Police Department, the incident occurred approximately 1.5 miles south of Schembechler Hall, the headquarters of Michigan football. The charges against Robinson are still pending toxicology results, and the AAPD has yet to release a police report.

Robinson, Michigan’s assistant director of player personnel, was initially suspended from the coaching staff but has now been terminated. “He is no longer on staff,” Michigan football spokesperson Dave Ablauf confirmed. “I can’t comment further because it’s a personnel matter.”

Former Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh hired Robinson to the team’s coaching staff in February 2022. He previously served as a scouting assistant and quality control coach for the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars, where he spent four seasons as a running back and wide receiver between 2013 and 2016.

Robinson spent four seasons at Michigan from 2009 to 2012, the latter three as the Wolverines’ star quarterback. He finished sixth in voting for the 2010 Heisman Trophy, which awarded to Auburn quarterback Cam Newton. The Deerfield Beach, Florida native was also the cover athlete for EA Sports’ NCAA Football 14, the most recent college football video game until NCAA Football 25 is released this summer.
