The Falcons continue to build their roster ahead of OTAs and training camp, this time signing former 49ers tight end Ross Dwelley.

Dwelley has spent his whole six-year career with San Francisco under Kyle Shanahan, starting 17 games. He has largely been employed as a blocker, with his greatest receiving season coming in 2020, when he caught 19 passes for 245 yards and a touchdown. Last season, Dwelley caught just one catch for 12 yards.

The 29-year-old will compete for one of the last roster places, but he has a good chance of landing one. The Falcons will use fewer two and three tight end sets under new offensive coordinator Zac Robinson than they did under Arthur Smith. However, there is no apparent TE3 after Kyle Pitts and Charlie Woerner. Ross Dwelley and John Fitzpatrick, a 2022 sixth-round pick, could compete throughout the preseason.
