AC Milan Shake-Up: Club Taps Top Candidate to Right the Ship After Lopetegui Debacle.
Sergio Conceicao has emerged as a viable possibility for the Milan bench amid the club’s extensive search for Stefano Pioli’s successor. According to Gianluca Di Marzio’s newest report, the Portuguese manager has surpassed other applicants and is currently the favorite for the position.
Milan will almost definitely split ways with Pioli at the end of the season. The Italian’s contract expires in 2025, but the club has already chosen to hire someone else. Zlatan Ibrahimovic has set the wheels in motion.
The Swede has several options on his shortlist after Milan called off Julen Lopetegui’s arrival due to fan protests. Antonio Conte is Ibrahimovic’s favorite, but the former Inter coach is getting closer to joining Napoli as Francesco Calzona prepares to leave.
Brighton boss Robert De Zerbi is another viable contender for the job. However, Milan would have to invest heaily to lure him to San Siro, hence an interest in Conceicao. Despite extending his contract at Porto until 2028, he’s close to leaving the club. 
Conceicao was a key supporter of Pinto da Costa during the elections. But Andre Villas-Boas has won the club’s presidential race, putting the 49-year-old in a difficult position. Milan is ready to strike, with negotiations between the parties already beginning.
He is currently the first choice. Milan is also keeping an eye on Ruben Amorim of Sporting CP, despite his exorbitant salary. Rossoneri would face heavy competition for his talents, and they lack the financial resources to compete with big foreign teams.
