Denzel Dumfries has apologized for hoisting a poster during Inter’s title parade depicting him holding Theo Hernandez like a dog on a leash.

Dumfries has had several run-ins with Theo Hernandez in recent derbies, including one last week in which both players were sent off.

The Dutch wing-back put a banner on the bus depicting him with a dog on a leash, the dog’s face being that of the French full-back Theo.

Dumfries has since issued an Instagram message expressing apologies for displaying the flag that was provided to him, and the FIGC will investigate the incident.

“Yesterday was the most beautiful day for me, the players, and the entire club. Thank you to the thousands of fans that attended the procession. It was a wonderful experience to rejoice with all of you; it meant a lot to the team,” he stated.

“During the parade, i held up a banner that displayed an inappropriate image. I am a player who loves rivalry in football, it is a crucial part of any game. I realise that holding up the banner was an error of judgement on my part and not smart at all.REPORT: Dumfries apologizes for holding up a banner ridiculing Theo. "Not smart at all" (picture).

“Let’s move on to focusing on what has been the most amazing season for Inter Milan. Thank you once again for all your support this season, and for the celebrations yesterday, I will never forget them.”
