REPORT: Mike Tomlin give a significant hint about the Steelers’ mindset.
The Pittsburgh Steelers will look very different in 2024, and coach Mike Tomlin believes many of the new faces they have brought in have something in common.
The Steelers have a new offensive coordinator, Arthur Smith, and two new quarterbacks, Russell Wilson and Justin Fields. Tomlin highlighted that all three had their reputations tarnished recently when their prior organizations abandoned them.
“To be completely honest, all three males are scalded. “They have something to prove professionally,” Tomlin told NFL Network’s Peter Schrager. “But we all feel the same way. We have something to prove, and I believe it is a good mindset for both individuals and the team as we prepare for the 2024 season. It’s not fun to relocate, be fired, or go through other similar experiences. But as competitors, it always stimulates us in the correct ways, and I’m delighted to work with the folks you named.”
Smith joined the Steelers after three seasons as head coach of the Atlanta Falcons, when he struggled and was heavily criticized for how he used some of his offensive assets. Wilson’s career with the Denver Broncos was a failure. Fields probably has the best reputation, mainly since it was not his fault he was relocated, and he may not have been the problem in Chicago.
Tomlin definitely wants his players to have a chip on their collective shoulder. If the Steelers bounce back, Tomlin will be praised for taking a chance on these players. If they don’t, many will wonder why Tomlin brought in some also-rans to try to spark a turnaround for a team that hasn’t won a playoff game since
