Dumfries will suffer the same punishments as Tonali and Mancini for flying a disparaging banner regarding Theo.

The FIGC will launch an investigation into Denzel Dumfries after the Inter defender snatched a banner showing Milan’s Theo Hernandez as a dog on a leash, and the Dutchman will face a fine, as have previous players.

Inter players celebrated their 20th Serie A title on Sunday, defeating Torino 2-0 at the Stadio Meazza. Over 300,000 Inter fans celebrated throughout the day, while over 10,000 waited for the squad at Piazza Duomo at night. There was also controversy, particularly when Inter defender Dumfries displayed a sign picturing Milan’s Theo Hernandez as a dog on a leash. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the FIGC will conduct an investigation, which will almost certainly end in a fine for the Dutch full-back. The punishment is the same as in previous occurrences. Theo, Mike Maignan, Rade Krunic, and Sandro Tonali were fined in 2022 for displaying a derogatory banner about their city rivals Inter during the Rossoneri’s title celebrations.

More recently, Roma defender Mancini was fined €5,000 for flying a banner with Lazio’s colours and a rat following a victory in the Derby della Capitale.

The only uncertain aspect of Dumfries’ punishment is the amount of money he will have to pay, which is expected to be between €4,000 and €5,000. Dumfries’ contract with Inter expires in June 2025, and the club will shortly meet with the Dutch defender to discuss the conditions of a new deal. According to Gazzetta, the recent event will not have an impact on the two parties’ negotiations.
