JUST IN: Newcastle United star mentioned as AC Milan considers massive transfer move.

In previous seasons, Newcastle United and Serie A giants AC Milan appeared to be inseparable in the transfer market.

It all began with the battle to capture Lille’s highly regarded centre-back Sven Botman, who chose to join Newcastle in the summer of 2022 despite strong interest from the Rossoneri. However, the Italian club was able to sign Chelsea duo Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Christian Pulisic after they were linked with a move to Tyneside – and there was also the ultimate revenge as Milan knocked Eddie Howe’s side out of the Champions League with a win at St James Park on the final matchday of the group stage.

However, the most significant transaction combining individuals from St James Park and the San Siro occurred last summer, when Newcastle surprised everyone by signing Milan stalwart Sandro Tonali, making him the latest key addition to the Magpies side. Tonali has watched from the sidelines after suffering a long-term suspension for violating Italian gambling regulations – but there is no doubt the £55 million agreement caught Milan off guard.JUST IN: Newcastle United star mentioned as AC Milan considers massive transfer move.

The transaction has been mentioned once more in a recent Italian article, as the Serie A club looks to move on from what has been a season of potential at the San Siro. Inter’s bitter rivals had easily won the Scudetto, and Milan’s attempts to win European silverware ended in a Europa League quarter-final defeat to Roma. Stefano Pioli’s squad exited the Coppa Italia at the same stage, losing 2-1 at home to Atalanta in January.

The Milan squad is likely to undergo some changes, with former Arsenal and Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud joining MLS side Los Angeles FC. According to Corriere della Sera, the possibility of a ‘Tonali-like sale’ remains, with goalkeeper Mike Maignan, defender Theo Hernandez, and forward Rafael Leao, who was tentatively linked with a move to Newcastle last year, among those being considered for an exit to allow some breathing room in their battle against financial fair play regulations.
