The Chicago Bears are preparing for the 2024 NFL draft, which begins tonight in Detroit, Michigan. The Bears have two top-10 picks, including first overall (courtesy to the Carolina Panthers). For weeks, it has been widely speculated that quarterback Caleb Williams will be selected first overall. However, Chicago also has the ninth overall pick, which adds to the drama with the several possibilities.

The Bears had one of the better salary cap situations entering free agency. General manager Ryan Poles made some splashes, bringing in weapons such as wide receiver Keenan Allen (via trade), running back D’Andre Swift, tight end Gerald Everett, and safety Kevin Byard. Now, ahead of the draft, Chicago stays in a strong position with the cap. According to Over The Cap, the Bears now have $22.81 million in available salary cap space, which ranks 12th in the NFL. They presently have 68 players on their roster, and they need to increase that number to 90 before training camp.

It’s more than enough to sign their new rookie class, which presently consists of only four players, and offers Chicago the flexibility to make other moves in free agency to acquire a bevy of undrafted free agents or veterans after the draft.
