Why Milan might have an advantage over Inter in their pursuit of the Bologna star.
Inter and AC Milan are ready to compete for Bologna attacker Joshua Zirkzee, but the Rossoneri may have the advantage over the Serie A champions. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Milan has two key reasons for beating Inter to the acquisition of Zirkzee, despite the Nerazzurri being the new Serie A winners as of Monday evening.
Perhaps the most crucial factor is that Milan can give Zirkzee an immediate starting spot in the team. With Olivier Giroud going for LAFC, Luka Jovic will be the club’s only recognised striker, and Zirkzee will almost definitely start ahead of the Serbian. This is something Inter cannot necessarily provide because their front two are Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram, who do not deserve to be dropped or replaced.
Milan will profit financially. Alexis Saelemaekers is now on loan at Bologna and has been playing well. There is an obvious desire for the Belgian to stay at Bologna, and he is valued at roughly €10 million, so he would undoubtedly be part of the negotiations.
Zirkzee would likely cost roughly €60 million, although Milan can reduce that figure by integrating Saelemaekers.
