Real Betis look willing to cut their losses with Moroccan winger Ez Abde this summer, following a disappointing season at the Benito Villamarin. The 22-year-old arrived with high expectations, but has already faded from Manuel Pellegrini’s starting lineup.

The Chilean coach was unimpressed with Abde during Betis’ defeat to Girona two weekends ago, believing he took too long to warm up, according to MD, and has played just over a quarter of Betis’ league minutes this season.

Barcelona, who signed him for €7.5 million last summer, will keep a careful eye on his progress due to a 50% sell-on clause. They also have a €20 million buyback option, but it appears unlikely to be used. Milan expressed interest in Abde last summer and has been credited with doing so again. However, many unknown La Liga clubs are also interested in signing him.

After 5 goals in 32 appearances but only 14 starts, his season will have done little to raise his value. Betis will need to find a buyer willing to pay more than €15 million this summer in order to make any money, but it appeared that Sporting Director Ramon Planes, who is no longer with the club, had secured a potential gem. It will be the third time in recent years that Betis and Pellegrini have failed to maximise the potential of outstanding young wingers with a reputation, following Luiz Henrique and Diego Lainez.
