GOOD NEWS: A South Carolina basketball signee has been awarded MVP of another all-star event.

Joyce Edwards, a South Carolina basketball signee, is one of the best prospects the Gamecocks have ever had, and the explosive forward can’t stop earning trophies.

Earlier this year, Edwards was named the Gatorade National Girls Basketball Player of the Year, MaxPreps National Player of the Year, and Morgan Wootten National Player of the Year. She has made almost every All-American team that exists. She has also performed in showcases for just the best of the best.

She has also dominated the all-star showcases.

Edwards was co-MVP of the McDonald’s All-American Game and MVP of the Nike Hoop Summit. She increased her all-star game MVP total to three over the weekend.

Edwards trounced some of her high school class’s other best players when competing in the Jordan Brand Classic. Playing against a slew of other 5-star prospects, Edwards led all scorers with 25 points (12/15 shooting!!!), two assists, and seven rebounds. She also had six steals and two blocks on the defensive end of the court.

Edwards led Team Flight to a 111-103 comeback triumph. Her defensive disruption and offensive efficiency in the second half determined the outcome of the game.

Fellow South Carolina basketball signee Maddy McDaniel was also on the Jordan Brand Classic roster, but she did not play since she was still recovering from a knee injury sustained during her high school postseason. Later this summer, Edwards and McDaniel will travel to Columbia to join fellow class of 2024 blue chipper Adhel Tac, who enrolled at the University of South Carolina in January.

Edwards becomes the third 5-star Columbia-area native to join the South Carolina basketball team in the previous three offseasons, following forward Ashlyn Watkins and guard MiLaysia Fulwiley.
