UNBELIEVABLE”: I’m leaving, rangers star openly declared his decision to quit Ibrox.
According to Gunebakis, John Lundstram has informed Rangers officials that he intends to quit the club this summer when his contract expires.
The Turkish news outlet writes on their website (19 April) that the Hers wishes to provide him a new contract and keep him in the club next season as part of Philippe Clement’s team.
However, after failing to agree terms with the 30-year-old midfielder despite suggestions that a deal was close, he has now indicated that he wants a “new adventure” in his career and is expected to join Ipswich after they made a move to bring him in ahead of Trabzonspor.
Should the Rangers give John Lundstram a new contract?
Since Clement replaced Michael Beale earlier this season, Lundstram has been the club’s best-performing midfielder.
With his contract coming to expire in the summer, it’s understandable that Clement wants to keep him at the club given his experience and importance to the team, but supporters are split.
The former Sheffield United midfielder has often struggled for consistency and when it comes to the biggest games in Europe or against Celtic he has more often than not failed to make his presence felt.
If the manager wants him to stay, leaving would certainly be a major setback for the summer plans, but that doesn’t necessarily imply it’s a negative thing.
His departure would allow the club to reallocate his wages to younger player who are more suited to the manager’s vision. It’s unfortunate that Rangers did not receive a fee for him, but poor board planning has once again put the club in a bad situation.
