Philippe Clement responded to the Rangers’ concerning record by suggesting that numbers are being used ‘in the wrong way’ on defense.
Philippe Clement was blasted with an eye-popping Rangers stat bomb live on TV, but he says their terrible recent record isn’t all it seems. The Ibrox manager suffered a significant setback in the title race with Celtic over the weekend as Ross County defeated them 3-2 in Dingwall, giving their rivals the advantage. Rangers must now beat Dundee in their twice-rescheduled encounter at Dens on Wednesday to keep the pressure on the champions and pull within a point.
Clement had a strong start to his Rangers career, but certain flaws have recently shown. From an Ibrox standpoint, they’ve now won only two of their last seven games in all competitions, dating back to a 2-1 loss to Motherwell at home in early March. In an interview with Sky Sports, Clement was challenged with that figure, but was keen to point out that it includes both Europa League games against Benfica, which he believes skews it.
When asked if he was concerned about that statistic, he responded, “No, that’s using the stats incorrectly. That includes two games versus Benfica, a very talented team. So the information regarding how the games were played is wrong. Of course, we performed poorly on Sunday; I was the first to admit it, as were the players. We must present another face tomorrow.”
