The 2025 Masters will simply not be the same without CBS’s renowned voice, Verne Lundquist.

The landmark on the 16th hole at Augusta National will retire after the 88th Masters this spring, and near the close of the final round on Sunday, Lundquist and Jim Nantz shared a moment on the broadcast that moved a lot of fans to tears.

“As Verne said, ‘Why not?'” Nantz began. “In 2018, Verne published a book called ‘Play By Play.’ And the final phrase in the book that he wrote, Verne, I want to apply it to you, you said, ‘Thanks… thanks for the memories.’

“Your voice has been a wonderful instrument. Thank you for providing a great soundtrack for all of our lives.

“Thank you so much, Jim,” Lundquist responded. “It’s my honor and my privilege.”
