Rangers criticise the SPFL and demand punishment against ‘negligent and unprofessional’ Dundee.
Rangers today accused Dundee of “negligence and unprofessionalism” after their Premiership encounter at Dens Park was postponed for the second time, and they urged the SPFL to take action against their top-flight opponents. The Ibrox team was scheduled to play their game in hand on Tayside tonight, however a 3.30pm pitch assessment determined that the surface was once again unusable, and the game was cancelled.
The decision has infuriated the Govan giants, who would have gone two points ahead of Celtic at the top of the league if they had won their game in hand, and they have written the governing body to express their discontent and demand that Dundee be reprimanded appropriately.
Rangers’ statement read: “Rangers has written to the SPFL expressing its position following today’s additional postponement of the Dundee Scottish Premiership encounter. “The incompetence and unprofessionalism displayed by Dundee Football Club, which has regularly violated SPFL rules, continues to harm the country’s premier professional competition. “In a week when a match in the same competition received record TV viewing figures, and with this evening’s game set to be shown again by Sky Sports, this situation is terribly unpleasant and eminently avoidable.
Rangers expects the SPFL to take proportionate and decisive action in accordance with its rules, and the club will continue to make its strongest possible submissions to them. “The club has regularly proposed alternatives to the SPFL, which have not been adopted. It has once again provided a solution for the preparation and execution of this rescheduled fixture and is awaiting a response from the SPFL. “As things stand, the rescheduled match will be on Wednesday, April 17 at 8 p.m. The club believes Dundee and the SPFL have handled this subject incorrectly throughout.
“At this time, we fully empathise with our supporters, nearly 4000 of whom were looking forward to tonight’s game. “Having already been left hugely inconvenienced and out of pocket by the first postponement last month, it is entirely unacceptable and disrespectful on the part of Dundee FC to have allowed this situation to have developed again.”
