Brad Spielberger of Pro Football Focus thinks that Michael Thomas, a former Saints All-Pro wide receiver, would be a huge asset to Smith’s offense and is the perfect wide receiver for it.

“Though his lack of production was not entirely his own doing, perhaps the Steelers take another swing with Thomas coming in as the No. 3 alongside Diontae Johnson and George Pickens,” Spielberger wrote. “Pittsburgh brought Allen Robinson aboard to serve as the big slot possession receiver in 2023.” “The unit will be more versatile if Johnson and Pickens are moved into the slot more to help create more separation on out-breakers like corner routes, an area in which Pickens excelled in 2023.”

Spielberger also predicted the kind of deal that Thomas would get, estimating that a one-year prove-it agreement would likely run Thomas about $6 million.

Given his history of injuries, Thomas may sign for a lot less money than a player of his quality would typically sign for. He has yet to reclaim his form as one of the NFL’s top wide receivers at this point in his career after missing a significant amount of time due to an ankle injury. But the Steelers and other clubs are aware of what Thomas is capable of. Even yet, it’s doubtful that he will demand a huge salary to join the ideal team for his comeback.

Thomas may be a good fit for the Steelers, regardless of his market, given that the team has only missed one recorder in the slot. They could help stabilize the group by adding Thomas and a draft pick if they add him to the receiving corps to join George Pickens.
