GREAT NEWS: A former NRL winger makes a comeback to the field for the Wests Tigers team.
After being released by the Newcastle Knights at the end of the previous season, Hymel Hunt, a former NRL winger and center, has returned to rugby league play.
Hunt left the Knights at the end of the previous season after 34 career tries and 113 first-grade career appearances due to a lack of a contract extension.
Since then, he has made a comeback to the Ryde-Eastwood Hawks’ field in the Ron Massey Cup.
Because the Hawks are connected to the Wests Tigers, he may represent the Western Suburbs Magpies in the NSW Cup later in the season.
After moving to Queensland to play junior football with the Redcliffe Dolphins, Hunt—who was born in Auckland, New Zealand—was signed by the Gold Coast Titans.
The 30-year-old played for the Gold Coast Titans (2013), Melbourne Storm (2015), and South Sydney Rabbitohs (2016–18) in his career before committing to the Newcastle Knights for the majority of his playing career (2019–23).
Hunt had a string of injuries towards the end of his NRL career. In recent years, Greg Marzhew, Enari Tuala, and Dominic Young have surpassed him in the Knights’ hierarchy.
