The Bills have traded receiver Stefon Diggs to the Texans.

The Buffalo Bills agreed to trade Stefon Diggs, their best receiving threat, to the Houston Texans on Wednesday. The Bills announced the transaction, acquiring the Texans’ second-round pick in the 2025 draft, which Houston obtained in a trade with Minnesota. Houston also received Buffalo’s sixth-round pick in this year’s draft and a fifth-round pick in 2025.

Diggs’ departure from Buffalo leaves quarterback Josh Allen without his favourite target, breaking up a duo that has rewritten the team’s passing records since the receiver joined the team in a March 2020 deal with Minnesota. They worked together to develop Buffalo’s offence into one of the most potent in the NFL, helping the Bills win four consecutive AFC East titles.

The Gaithersburg, Maryland native adds another playmaker to the Texans’ offence, joining Nico Collins and Tank Dell. Last season, Collins led Houston with 80 receptions, 1,297 yards, and eight touchdowns. The Texans improved from last to first in the AFC South behind first-year coach DeMeco Ryans and AP Offensive Rookie of the Year C.J. Stroud. Houston has also traded for running back Joe Mixon, as well as made some defensive changes.

Following the agreement, the Texans were 15-1 to win the Super Bowl next season on FanDuel Sportsbook. Diggs, 30, has nine years of NFL experience and has accumulated more than 1,000 yards in each of the last six seasons. In his debut season in Buffalo, he set a Bills record by leading the league in both yards receiving (1,535) and catches (127).The Bills have traded receiver Stefon Diggs to the Texans.

Diggs’ production began to decline in the second half of last season, just as Buffalo fired offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey and promoted Joe Brady, who emphasised the running game more. Diggs concluded the season with 107 receptions, 1,183 yards, and eight touchdowns, both career lows for him in Buffalo. He concluded his time in Buffalo with 445 receptions for 5,372 yards and 37 touchdowns, ranking fourth on the team’s list. Diggs ranks fourth in the organisation in single-season receptions and second in yards receiving.

Overall, he has 1,178 catches for 9,995 yards and 67 touchdowns since being taken by the Vikings in the fifth round of the 2015 draft from Maryland.

Diggs, on the other hand, retained the volatile demeanour that prompted the Vikings to trade him to Buffalo. Despite being named Bills team captain in each of the previous two seasons, Diggs sparked controversy with multiple sideline outbursts and his fury after the Bills’ 2022 season ended with a 27-10 loss to Cincinnati in a divisional stage playoff.

Diggs fled the locker room before coach Sean McDermott could address the squad and had to be brought back by teammate Duke Williams. Diggs then spent the offseason sending mysterious comments to his social media accounts and failing to participate in the Bills’ voluntary offseason programmes.

When Diggs did not show up for the Bills’ first mandatory practice, McDermott expressed “concerned” about the player’s absence. A day later, McDermott corrected himself, stating that Diggs was excused from practice but was present at the facility to discuss lingering issues from the previous season.

The squabbles forced Diggs to repeatedly reassert his commitment to the Bills, including stating that he intended to conclude his career in Buffalo. “I take my job seriously. You can see the way I play. You can see the way I play. “You can see how I practise,” Diggs explained in November. “They’ve never questioned me as a player or as a man about what I bring to the table. So my complete investment has never been in jeopardy.”
