REPORT: Source Says Laker Trade Target Is $215 Million All-NBA Guard.
With LeBron James, the Los Angeles Lakers are running out of time. They are only able to upgrade skill to a certain extent given the restricted resources at their disposal. That won’t deter them from trying, though. According to Jovan Buha of The Athletic, they are focusing on Trae Young in order to encircle James and Anthony Davis.
Buha clarified on his YouTube channel that the Lakers are considering pursuing a third star, and that Young’s name has been mentioned.
This off-season, “they are going third star hunting,” according to Buha. “Who is accessible now? Trae Young is the one name I hear a lot. He is a client of Clutch Sports and has previously attended Laker playoff games. At the moment, that seems to be the most feasible option.
Then, in a deal for Young, Buha wondered who would return to the Atlanta Hawks.
Naturally, the decision to acquire him will depend on their willingness to offer all three picks and two picks in exchange. Max (Christie) and Austin (Reaves)? Is Austin the only one experiencing this? Of course, you also need to have an income to match. Is that Hachimura Rui? Is Jared Vanderbilt that person? Is D’Angelo Russell sent there as well? Though there are many possible outcomes, from what I gather, they are definitely going third-star hunting.
Young, who is in the second year of a five-year, $215 million contract, was named to the All-NBA squad in 2022.
In Response to Rumors of a Lakers Trade, Trae Young
Young talked about the idea of visiting the Lakers. He stated that he wants to win a championship with the Hawks, even though he is uncertain about his future in Atlanta. He want a title period at the same time.
Young stated, “They’ve never won a championship in Atlanta,” on Tuesday, March 5, during an interview with Taylor Rooks of Bleacher Report. “It felt like a match made in heaven, like when I did that and got drafted.” It is my desire to do this. Like this, too, I can overcome the odds.
My entire vision, then, was to be here, as if winning championships were my aim. Bring others here with me so that we can create a dynasty and championship [culture] together. Who knows, though—you may be six now. Who knows? I would like to have it [championship].
The Hawks have only regressed since making an unexpected run to the Eastern Conference Finals in 2021. With their current record of 34–40, they are ranked as the Eastern Conference’s 10th seed. Changes might result from their struggles.
Trae Young is reportedly of interest to Laker.
The Lakers were reportedly more interested in making an offseason trade for a player like Young, according to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, before the NBA Trade deadline passed.
In a story published on January 23, McMenamin stated, “Team sources told ESPN that the Lakers have discussed internally the possibility of packaging three picks, along with players they already have on their books, to pursue a bona fide star, such as Donovan Mitchell of the Cleveland Cavaliers or Trae Young of the Atlanta Hawks.”
